AI-Powered Assistant for 1ForFit Apps


The Challenge
At 1ForFit, a company dedicated to building digital health and wellness solutions, we aimed to enhance user engagement by integrating an AI-powered personal assistant chat into our mobile app. The goal was to provide users with seamless, expert-backed advice on nutrition, fitness, psychology, and dieting - all within an intuitive chat experience that felt as natural as talking to a real expert.
The challenge was twofold:
- Creating an authentic, human-like chat experience that made users feel they were speaking to real professionals.
- Determining the best interaction model to balance AI-driven guidance with user flexibility, ensuring an engaging and valuable experience.

The Solution
We crafted a user-friendly chat experience inspired by familiar messaging platforms, ensuring a smooth and intuitive interaction. The chat feature was strategically placed in the app’s top navigation bar, allowing users to effortlessly start a conversation with their preferred AI expert at the tap of an icon.
Three Chat Interaction Models
We tested three different approaches:
1. Predefined Questions & Answers. Quiz-Style has already known behavior in the onboarding process among our users.
- Users were guided through structured questions with multiple-choice responses.
- Ensured clear, accurate, and easily digestible expert advice.
- Best suited for users who preferred quick, structured guidance.
2. Open-Ended Chat
- Users could ask any question, receiving responses in a free-flowing conversation.
- Created a highly personalized experience but posed risks of AI misinterpretation.
3. Hybrid Approach (Predefined + Open-Ended Chat)
- Combined structured prompts with free-text input options.
- Allowed for both guided learning and flexible exploration of expert advice.
- Balanced usability and personalization, addressing limitations of the other two models.

Our iterative approach, backed by A/B testing and data-driven insights, revealed that the hybrid model delivered the best results.
Key outcomes included:
- 30% increase in user engagement within the first three months.
- Higher retention rates, as users found value in tailored, interactive advice.
- Improved conversion rates, as personalized advice encouraged users to explore premium app features.
